Sales Agent

A sales agent license is the first available license and is the only license available for those without any real estate experience. A sales agent license allows a person to sell real estate under the direction of a broker.

In order to get a sales agent license, the person must qualify under the items listed as the qualifications of licensure. They must also complete 120 hours of required pre-licensing education and pass the state exam with a score of 70% or better.

The state has broken down the 120 hour education requirement into several categories. You may click on the following link to view this breakdown of the courses. This will also give you a very good overview of what will be covered in our training.

The following are characteristics of sales agents:

  • Sales agents are typically independent contractors under the supervision of a branch or principal broker.

  • They may also work as employees of a broker. Once licensed, a sales agent will work under the name, and direction of a broker.

  • Without a Broker's license an agent may not conduct real estate transactions unless affiliated with a broker. Agents may only be affiliated with one principal broker in each state.

The actual process of becoming a licensed real estate agent in Utah is controlled by the Utah Division of Real Estate.
